The Me Project

I designed this image for a desktop publishing class at Monroe Community College using Adobe Photoshop. The two background images are paintings i painted in High School. The one to the left is a portrait of Ty Cobb and the one on the right is an oil painting I painted in which the assignment was to replicate an already existing painting. I was required to include a body part in this image so I took a picture of my pitching shoulder and scanned an image of myself pitching for my american legion team-taken from the newspaper-into the computer and positioned it to make it look like I am using my shoulder as if it were a pitching mound. The image of me kneeling on the bill of Ty Cobb's hat was taken from my high school baseball team picture. The DAYPRO is anti-inflammatory medication I was given by the doctor for tendonitis in my pitching shoulder. The 97 on Ty Cobb's cheek is the year of my high school graduation and was scanned into the computer from my letter jacket as was the cross bats pin, cross country pin, and the bars. The number 23 was my high school baseball number scanned into the computer from my baseball coat and the number 3 was my american legion number scanned into the computer from my baseball jersey. The american legion patch was also scanned into the computer from my american legion baseball jersey and placed on the image of me pitching to break up the black and white of that image and add some color to it. The name tag at the bottom is from my job when I worked at the Wegmans grocery store.
Stadium Floor 3D Movie

I designed this image for a Digital Photography class at Monroe Community College using Adobe Photoshop. I cut out the baseball playing field within Kaufman Stadium(home of the Kansas City Royals) and replaced it with an image of skydivers from Sports Illustrated magazine in which the skydivers shut off the engine of the plane, let the plane free fall while they are sky diving, and then attempt to get back into the plane and restart the engine. I placed the image on the floor of Kaufman Stadium to look as if this scene is being projected onto the floor of the stadium like a movie would be. I cut the image of the plane out separately so I could place it partially inside and partially outside the rest of the skydiving scene, making the scene confusing to the viewer and causing the scene to appear somewhat 3D. I love watching great pitchers pitch because I used to love being a pitcher myself, so I included images of Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling-the two pitching stars of the 2001 World Series who helped Arizona beat the NY Yankees-and made to look like giants. I also included images of players from my favorite NFL football team-the New York Giants-running around the outside of the stadium.
Baseball Photo Montage

I designed this photo montage in a graphic design class at Monroe Community College without the aid of a computer. For the background I used an image I found in a magazine of an american flag made out of baseballs and wooden baseball bats. i decided to include great major league baseball players of the present-Ken Griffey Jr. (top right), Tony Gwynn(bottom right), and Mark McGwire(bottom center)-and of the past-(bottom left to right)Henry Aaron, Mickey Mantle, and Babe Ruth-as well as an image of a child fielding a ground ball to represent the future of baseball. I also included an image of myself pitching for my american legion baseball team(top left) taken from the local newspaper.
Internment Camp Baseball

I designed this image in a design class while i was attending Greece Athena High School. The assignment was to create an illustration for a children's book that was not already in the book. i chose a book about life in a Japanese internment camp during WWii. I created this image-based on a historic black and white action photo of major league basebalI-using oil pastels.
Self Portrait

I made this drawing for a drawing class my senior year at Greece Athena High School. The assignment was to create a self portrait using chalk on a black surface while in a dark room with one small light source.
Ty Cobb in Detroit Tiger Colors

I painted this portrait of Ty Cobb based on a black and white photograph of him-using tempera paint-for a design class my senior year at Greece Athena High School. The teacher was annoyed with me because the assignment was to design a fictitious face. I asked her if she knows of any real person who has an orange and blue face...hahahaha!
Abstract Baseball

I painted this for an Art Essentials class while attending Monroe Community College. The teacher in this class seemed to be obsessed with the idea of using panels in art. The assignment was to find pictures in a magazine, zero in on an interesting part of the photograph, and paint it in an abstract way. The instructions were to use no shades or tints for each color while painting each of the original six panels. This approach has the effect of flattening out the image and simplifying it while also causing confusion or mystery as to what the image is and where it came from. The second set of instructions was to create 6 new panels to connect the original six panels to make a complete work of art. The top left, second bottom, third bottom, fifth top, fifth bottom, and the sixth top panels are the original six panels, the others are the connecting panels.
